    Journal Square

Journal Square—named for the original Jersey Journal newspaper headquarters—spent much of the twentieth century serving as the Times Square of Jersey City, a bustling commercial and entertainment hub. Like Times Square across the river, Journal Square’s identity has gone through several incarnations in recent years, but with the impending arrival of the Centre Pompidou x Jersey City outpost in 2024, Journal Square is poised to reclaim the spotlight. The first North American outpost of the French modern art museum will join nearby Mana Contemporary and the historic Loew’s Theater (whose own extensive renovation is scheduled to be unveiled in 2025) to make Journal Square into a must-visit cultural destination. Meanwhile, new amenity-laden apartment buildings are sprouting all over, offering residents an urban experience a few notches more subdued than Manhattan while still being a PATH ride away from it.
