Get to Know Richmond Hill

Richmond Hill is the quintessential Toronto suburb, primarily made up of spacious, single-family houses set amid wide swaths of green space. And Richmond Hill’s popularity — the city started growing in the 1970s from just a few thousand to more than 30,000 residents, before exponentially expanding in the 1990s to more than 200,000 people today — proves its many charms. There are plenty of Richmond Hill teenagers who left for more urban pastures, before happily moving back as adults, often with their own children in tow. Hidden among all of Richmond Hill’s suburban splendor though is an incredible restaurant scene; the David Dunlap Observatory, home to Canada’s largest telescope; and a local public ice rink named after hometown hero Olympic medalist Elvis Stojko, which offers pickup ice hockey for all ages. This being the suburbs, there’s also always Hillcrest Mall, the local shopping center.
